With the bonfire season starting next week we are happy to announce that our fundraising charities for our October event are:
OUT OF THE BLUE
Out Of The Blue is a fundraising body established in memory of Will Beckett who took his own life at Beachy Head in January 2013, at the age of 42. This tragedy came as an incredible shock for his family and friends – it came simply ‘Out Of The Blue’.
Out Of The Blue raises money to support the charities who supported and guided the family so now – “Out Of The Blue raises money to support these charities so they can help others like us”
PARKINSON’S HAILSHAM BRANCH
Our group offers friendship and support locally to people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. We’re the charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. Activities Include social events and a local singing group, plus access to regional programs like specialised hydrotherapy.
As a society we believe it’s so important to support local charities to ensure that they continue the great work that they do.
Look out for the charity street collections on the evening of HBS Bonfire Celebrations, Oct 17 2026, and give generously. We and the charities thank you in advance 👍
We are only a matter of weeks away from the first Bonfire events taking place, however the best is being held in Hailsham 17th October 2026! We are well into our planning stage which takes a great deal of work and our society members are again committed to making this a fantastic event. HBS Darts Evening @ The Crown Hailsham
HBS Socials Captain, Jo Salmons, organised a fantastic evening event at The Crown Pub in Hailsham on 21 Feb 2026. The night consisted of rounds of darts played by pairs randomly picked from the society members. This was the first night of this type and was a huge success. The outright winners were our Captain of Street Collections, Liz and our very own Chairman, Bob. There were other prizes up for grabs throughout the night and it was well represented by our society members. The society is not all about the bonfire celebrations in October and November, there are many events we get involved in and great get togethers like this one to have a great time!
HBS members attended the Sussex Bonfire Society Annual Carol Service in Uckfield, 14 December 2025. The society was well represented with a number of members attending in their Smuggler or Victorian dress. The service was preceded with a colourful procession and then Christmas Carols at the church. Also the new banner for Christmas was revealed, a great addition to our many banners throughout the years and proudly carried by our Captain of Banners, Richard Harris. HBS Juniors banner was carried in by Dylan Lloyd, a long standing junior member and now YouTuber for the society.
The evening of 22 November brought the 2025 bonfire season to an end for Hailsham Bonfire Society. Our final outmeeting was at Chiddingly and whilst the weather was cold and wet we were offered a warm welcome from our hosts. HBS had a great turnout from the membership and we certainly all had a great evening with fantastic bonfire and firework display to end.
2025 has been a great year for the society with new members joining and new societies visited. We are always looking for new members to join the society and help maintain our high standards when putting our own evening together. This event takes a great deal of work to prepare and execute however all members who support this have a great evening and work hard to give our visiting societies and public an event to remember. On 21 November 2025 HBS presented 2 cheques to their chosen charities for this year, Inspire Sussex and Children With Cancer at the Crown Public House in Hailsham, thanks to the Crown for their continued support to our society. Both charities are close to our hearts as we have society members who are supported by them, in addition the work they both do to support those in the community is amazing. Both were given cheques for £650 and were collected by both members and volunteers of the charities on their behalf. Our Chairman, Bob Sandalls, and members of the Bonfire Society were at the presentation, we thank Paul Gibson from Hailsham News for the photos. We continue to support local charities and initiatives across the area and always looking for support from local businesses and residents alike. HAILSHAM BONFIRE SOCIETY WINS AT AWARDS
For the last few months Hailsham residents have been voting for their Hailsham Hero’s. The initiative was launched in 2024 by Hailsham News and Hailsham FM and saw a number of local Heroes awarded for their efforts in the town.
The Hailsham Hero Award is a perfect way to acknowledge someone truly deserving person who has made a real difference through their generous spirit and tireless work with the Hailsham area.
The event was held on the evening of October 14 2025 at The Kings Head in Horsebridge with our Chairman, Bob Sandalls, invited as HBS was shortlisted as a contender for the award “Group Organisation Award”
The voting closed on October 30 and we are pleased to announce that HBS won this award. This award recognises all the hard work that our society members, who are all volunteers, do to help raise funds for not only the fantastic free event which is held every year but also local charities. We would like to thank all of those who voted for us and also those businesses which have supported us throughout the year to do what we do.
On October 18 2025 HBS hosted their Guy Fawkes and Fireworks spectacular. The business of preparing the bonfire and making sure that everything was ready stated early on Saturday morning at 7am….. Our fantastic society members were all ready to help out on what is a very long day.
With 17 visiting societies and 4 fantastic bands the night was an amazing success. Support was offered from other societies and we really appreciated it as this helped us make our event as successful as it was. The event hosted a record number of visitors which shows how popular this is in the Hailsham calendar of events throughout the year.
